JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - An elderly woman was killed and a man is in serious condition after a single car accident in Jackson County.
Mary Wilson, 72, died from her injuries in the accident and Willie Wilson, 50, was taken to Southeast Medical Center in serious condition.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Smokey and Cloverdale Road at about 5:00 a.m. Friday.
FHP said a car with Mary and Willie inside was traveling on Smokey Road when the car drove onto the shoulder.
FHP stated the driver tried to get back onto the roadway but over-corrected, causing the car to overturn and hit several trees.
The driver of the vehicle is currently unknown and an investigation is on-going.
FHP said they are confident Mary or Willie was the driver, but they still have to process more evidence.
FHP said at the time of the accident Willie and Mary were not wearing their seatbelts.
