THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A woman is dead after a single-car crash in Thomas County Monday morning.

According to Corporal Kenneth Jones, the fatal car accident happened along Grooverville Road in Boston.

He says evidence suggests the driver fell asleep at the wheel, and when she noticed she was driving off the side of the road, she overcorrected.

Jones added that overcorrecting plays a crucial role as to why many accidents can be so violent.

"Just take your feet off the gas, don't hit the brakes, just kind of ease back onto the road way. Don't snatch, snatching will make you overcorrect," said Jones. "It will make the car start fish-tailing, and possibly get sideways, and go off the side of the road."

Jones says it's as dangerous to drive tired as it is to drive intoxicated.

"A DUI driver have a tendency to slam on the brakes erratically, swerve back and forth from lane to lane, and it's the same way when you're tired," said Jones.

Law enforcement say whenever you are about to drive do not underestimate the importance of having plenty of rest before you get behind the wheel.
