JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Troopers said that a woman is in serious condition after her car was hit by another while attempting to cross U.S. 19 in Jefferson County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that around 9 a.m. on Thursday, 26-year-old Emmaline Massaglia from Monticello was driving east on Coopers Pond Road and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection on U.S. 19.
They said that another car was traveling north on U.S. 19 in the outside lane around 30 miles per hour.
Witnesses told troopers that Massaglia pulled from the stop sign and crossed the southbound lanes, stopping in the median area. As the other car approached, she tried to cross the northbound lanes to pull into the entrance to the Tractor Supply Store.
The driver of the second car told troopers that he had no time to react before the two cars crashed.
The second car ended up hitting the right side of Massaglia's car, pushing the car onto it's left side and rotating it. She was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. The other driver had no injuries.
Troopers said that charges are pending against Massaglia for a violation of the right of way.
