ST. MARKS, FL (WTXL) -- Deputies are investigating a car chase that began in Leon County and ended in a suicide at the boat ramp in St. Marks.

Deputies were called to a reported carjacking around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on Northridge Road. According to Leon County Sheriff's Office, a woman called her relatives to tell them that she was being carjacked, and those relatives called 911.

On their way to respond to the scene, deputies found a vehicle matching the description driving on Woodville Highway. According to deputies, that car led them on a high speed chase, traveling 80 to 100 mph, that ended at the St. Marks boat ramp.

Deputies said as they were walking up to the car after it stopped, they heard a gunshot go off inside. The driver was the only person inside the car.

The 36-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. At this time deputies are not releasing her identity.
