ORLANDO, Fla. -- Authorities say a Lakeland woman has been charged two counts of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence after the bodies of her father and 6-year-old daughter were found inside an outdoor shed.
Polk County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Donna Wood said Sunday that 25-year-old Cheyanne Jessie was arrested after detectives found inconsistencies in the account of the whereabouts of her family members, who were last seen July 18.
Jessie reported her 50-year-old father Mark Weekly and 6-year-old daughter Meredith Jessie missing Saturday. After searching throughout the night, detectives found their remains in plastic totes that had been placed inside a shed on a neighbor's property about 200 yards away from Weekly's home.
Officials believe they were stabbed or shot in some combination.
Jessie is set for an initial court appearance Monday.
