MOULTRIE, Ga. (WTXL)--A woman's home caught fire in Moultrie, Ga., leaving her badly burned and in the hospital.

The fire happened at 211 Street in Moultrie early Thursday morning.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said an investigation by his office revealed the cause of the fire as careless smoking.

They believe the victim, 44-year old Mary Bryant, fell asleep while smoking in bed.

Investigators say she received third degree burns and was airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta. The Moultrie Fire department extinguished the blaze.
