Police say Brown and at least three other accomplices stole 107 of debit and credit cards, checkbooks, and 64 driver's licenses.

They say they did it by breaking into cars and snatching purses.

Its affecting victims in about a dozen Florida counties.

But officer David Northway with TPD says these crimes happen more often than you think.

"Identity theft is up, credit card fraud is up, all of those things," said Northway.

Residents like Phillip Simon whose been a victim of identity theft says its no joke

"it was very never wrecking," said Simon.

Simon says more than $9000 dollars was taken from his account, which was money he was saving to buy a house.

"It was a major ordeal, you just have to be very careful with passwords and checking your wallet and making sure people don't get a hold of those identifiers," said Simon.

Now he's extra cautious and hoping others follow.

"Keep an eye on your bank statements, just do everything you can,and as soon as you notice something wrong. You've got to address it very quickly," said Simon.
