TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Running a 5K is no easy feat, so imagine running one everyday for 50 days. That's what Dr. Adel Korkor is doing to raise money for mental health resources across the country.
Tallahassee is the 31-st stop on his journey to run a 5K in every state in 50 days. Dr. Korkor says, there's a negative stigma associated with people having, and getting proper help, for mental health issues. Through this awareness raising campaign, he hopes to break that stigma and raise money for affordable, comprehensive mental health resources.
Dr. Korkor is a retired kidney specialist, who started his foundation 2 years ago, which focuses helping those with mental health problems. He says, "During my years of practice with medicine, I have found that mental health issues has always been under served. There has always been a struggle with my patients to get the care that they need, to afford the care they need, to have the access to what they need. And sometimes, even the quality."
Dr. Korker says, he decided to travel to all 50 states for this campaign because he wanted to hear stories from everyone. Why 50 days? He says, time is of the essence. Dr. Korkor wants to spread the message that anyone who has mental issues is not alone.
Dr. Adel Korkor says, he will definitely be back in the Capital City next year for the 5K 50 50.
