TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Millions of Americans rely on food banks each year. As a result, Winn-Dixie and Second Harvest will be partnering for Hunger Relief Awareness Day.

This Saturday, December 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., eight Winn-Dixie stores in the greater Tallahassee area will focus on Hunger Relief Awareness Day together with America’s Second Harvest volunteers.  These volunteers will be on hand to provide customers further information on the need for current efforts revolving around Hunger Relief. Customers are able to easily donate to the cause directly at Winn-Dixie's cash registers with funds benefiting local families in need.

The Winn-Dixie Hunger Relief program encourages customers to  donate through tear pads/scan sheets at store registers and by purchasing specially marked Winn-Dixie brand products. All dollars raised through December 24 will benefit local Feeding America-affiliated food banks by providing nutritious, fresh foods to help neighbors in need. Regional food banks that benefit from the program will also participate in Hunger Relief Awareness Day across Winn-Dixie’s operating area.

For those unable to visit the stores or want to know more, Winn-Dixie and benefiting food banks will participate in a Twitter chat from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday to discuss hunger problems affecting local neighborhoods and the impact of donations.  Twitter users can join the conversation by following @WinnDixie and using the hash tag #Tweet2Eat in their posts during the chat.
