TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Plans are announced to close a local grocery store chain next month, and residents in the area are sharing their feelings.
Officials confirm that employees of the Winn-Dixie on "Paul Russell Road" in Tallahassee were notified of the June closure.
Corporate headquarters say those employees are encouraged to apply at other locations. Shoppers in the area are worried about where they'll get their groceries.
Regional Vice President Shawn Sloan released a statement about the closing saying:
"Southeastern Grocers will be closing Winn-Dixie store #116, located at 110 Paul Russell Rd. in Tallahassee, FL. This decision was not made lightly. Our associates are always the first to know of any changes at our stores and have been made aware of the closure and are encouraged to apply for open positions we have in our network of neighboring Winn-Dixie stores. The closure is scheduled to take place in June. Until the store closes, we will work hard to continue delivering the great service and value our customers have come to expect.
While closing stores is never easy for any retailer, we have made this difficult decision so we can reinvest in what matters most for our customers – providing the quality, service and value they have come to expect from us."
