TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - One item Tallahassee City Commissioners are looking at during Wednesday's meeting will be whether or not they want to regulate Segways and pedicabs used in city limits.

According to the meeting agenda, Segways and pedicabs are getting more popular in the city and it is up to the City Commission if they want to regulate them and if so, how much regulation should be imposed.

Several large cities already have regulations including rules that go as far as prohibiting Segways altogether, such as in Key West, to allowing them on roads, bicycle paths and some sidewalks as long as they don't go more than 8 mph in Miami Beach. The agenda lists several other Florida cities and their policies on Segways as well.

The agenda does point out that the Americans with Disabilities Act does allow disabled individuals to use Segways and other "power driven mobility devices" to accommodate their disability in public places.

In Daytona beach, pedicabs can be used in sidewalks but in Ocala they just follow state laws on the subject.

This item will be discussed at the Tallahassee City Commission Meeting is at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, in City Hall.
