TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) The number of states reporting the flu is on the rise.

The Centers for Disease Control says another 10 states have reported flu activity within the last week.

That now brings the total number of states reported widespread flu activity to 35.

In South Georgia, two flu-related deaths have been reported.  One dead had already been reported in the same area.  So far in Georgia, 19 flu deaths have already been reported this season.

Dr. William Grow, District Health Director, says it's important to be vaccinated.

“Again, we stress the importance of getting your flu vaccine annually,” said Grow. “This is the most effective way to prevent getting the flu. Those that have died in our district did not have a documented flu vaccine, per the Georgia Registry of Immunization Transactions and Services.”

Frequent and thorough hand washing will help guard against the flu.  Alcohol based hand gels are the next best thing if soap and water is not available.
