TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Fireworks signs are popping up along the roadsides selling roman candles, black cats, and bottle rockets for Fourth of July celebrations.
They'll have all the goodies and favorites for this upcoming holiday weekend.
Here's what you need to know before you purchase fireworks for yourself
Since 2015 in Georgia, most consumer fire works have been legalized.
This includes firecrackers, skyrockets, and roman candles.
Across the state line in Florida however, and roman candles are illegal. The only fireworks officially allowed in the Sunshine State fall in to the "sparkler" category.
Those fireworks cannot leave the ground.
Officer Dave Northway with the Tallahassee Police Department said,"Sparklers, things like that that stay on the ground are not to be thrown or launched with a propellant, those are allowed in the state of Florida."
So before you buy fireworks from a roadside stand or shop, make sure the sellers have the proper permits to make a legal sale. And remember, just because you can buy it doesn't mean you can set it off.
