Florida alligators are known for eating many things: turtles, birds, the occasional human limb.

But one alligator snapped in a recent photo by a Florida Agricultural Crimes Intelligence Unit officer seems to have a sweet tooth. The image on the group's Facebook page shows a very large gator crawling into a canal with a green watermelon clamped in its jaws.

Sgt. Charles White of the Hendry County Sheriff's Office took the photo.

Florida alligator experts say it's highly unusual for gators to eat watermelon. They are predatory carnivores that eat fish and frogs when they are small, then graduate to birds, turtles and snakes when fully grown.
