SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - A Sarasota couple found a 300 pound alligator swimming in their pool early Wednesday morning.
Connie and Frank Shaffery were enjoying their morning cup of coffee, when they spotted the 9ft. alligator swimming in their pool.
"We have a pond somewhat nearby, but it's strange that this gator ended up in our pool," said Frank Shaffery.
The Shaffery's immediately called Florida Fish and Wildlife to tell them about their unexpected discovery.
According to Connie Shaffery, FWC responded quickly and was able to remove the alligator from the pool in 20 minutes.
The alligator trapper who assisted the Shaffery's was Kevin Hibler.
Shaffery says the FWC employee estimated the alligator to weigh around 300 pounds and is around 15-20 years old.
The Shaffery's live in a neighborhood off University Parkway and Honore Avenue.
