Watch out for road closures during the Tallahassee Marathon

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Officials are warning about increased traffic and road closures ahead of the 44th annual Tallahassee Marathon Sunday.

The marathon runs from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The Tallahassee Police Department will be providing traffic control. They warn that all drivers should be aware that runners have the right of way and traffic will be held as runners cross intersections. 

Tallahassee police say you should watch out for the following temporary road closures:

  • Monroe Street from Apalachee Pkwy to Tennessee Street (6 am – approximately 9 am)
  • Monroe side streets from Adams Street to Calhoun Street: E Pensacola, Jefferson, College, Park and Call.  (6 am – approximately 9 am)
  • Gamble Street (Lake Bradford to Disston)
  • No traffic east on Springsax Road from Springhill Road
  • No traffic north on Ridge Road from Sunnyside Drive
  • No traffic north on Duval Street from Gaines Street (5 am -2:30 pm)
  • No traffic north on Thomasville Road from Monroe Street (7 am – approximately 9 am)
  • No traffic south on Calhoun Street (Thomasville Road to Tennessee Street) (7 am – approximately 9 am)

The Marathon Route is:

  • Monroe/Jefferson – Start
  • North on Monroe to Glenview St.
  • East on Glenview to Thomasville Rd.
  • South on Thomasville Rd. to Calhoun St.
  • South on Calhoun St. to Tennessee St.
  • East on Tennessee St. to Franklin Blvd.
  • South on Franklin Blvd. onto S. Meridian St.
  • Enter Cascade Park (run Cascade Park trails)
  • North on Suwannee St. to Lafayette St.
  • East on Lafayette St. to Myers Park Dr.
  • South on Myers Park Dr. to Circle Dr.
  • Continue west on Myers Park Drive to Golf Terrace Dr.
  • South on Golf Terrace to Thornall St.
  • West on Thornall St. to S. Meridian St.
  • North on S. Meridian St. to Oakland Ave.
  • West on Oakland Ave. to S. Gadsden St.
  • North on S. Gadsden St. to Cascades Pedestrian Bridge.
  • West on Bridge to Adams and FAMU Way.
  • West on FAMU Way to Pinellas St.
  • South on Pinellas St. to Eugenia St.
  • West on Eugenia St. to Russell St.
  • South on Russell St. to Wailes St.
  • West on Wailes St. to Disston St.
  • South on Disston to Gamble St.
  • West on Gamble St.
    • Half marathon will continue west on Gamble Street to Lake Bradford Road.  (See below for route completion)
    • Full marathon will turn south onto St. Marks Historic Trail.

Full Marathon:

  • Continue south on St. Marks Trail to Pasco St.
  • Exit Trail and head south on Pasco St. to Springsax Road.
  • West on Springsax Road to Notre Dame St.
  • South on Notre Dame St. Creek Rd.
  • West on Creek Road to N. Ridge Rd.
  • South on N. Ridge Rd. toward Lake Henrietta Trail
  • Compete lap around Lake Henrietta Trail
  • North on Ridge Road to Creek Rd.
  • East on Creek Rd to Wheatley Rd.
  • West on Hastie to Tanner
  • East on Tanner to Parkridge Drive (road turns and becomes Bragg Drive)
  • East on Bragg Drive to Wahnish Way
  • Enter trail (eastbound) at Wahnish Way and St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail
  • South on St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail Crossway Rd.
  • Turning Point
  • Head back north on St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail to Gamble Street.

Half and Full Marathon route from Gamble St:

  • West on Gamble to Lake Bradford Road.
  • North on Lake Bradford to Eppes Drive.
  • West on Eppes to Jackson Bluff Road.
  • West on Jackson Bluff Road to Hayden.
  • North on Hayden Road to pedestrian tunnel.
  • Off-Road/St. Marks Trail
  • South on Champions Way/Chieftan Way
  • East on St. Augustine St.
  • South on S. Woodward Ave. toward W. Madison St.
  • East on W. Madison St. to S. Macomb St.
  • North on Macomb (make slight right) and then continue east on Madison St.
  • North on Duval Street to Finish Line behind City Hall.
