TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Get ready to see more construction in downtown Tallahassee as developers start working on a new project.

WTXL ABC's Jada Williams joined us live from where the future development will go.

This week, development will start on the Washington Square Project in downtown Tallahassee.

The project has been in the works for years now, and finally the next phase begins.

The development will go along Jefferson and Gadsden Street, right behind the Leon County Courthouse.

The almost 20-story building will feature a Loews Hotel, condos, a restaurant, office space and a ballroom.

Loews Hotels are upscale and generally found in larger cities. The nearest Loews to Tallahassee are in Orlando, Miami, Atlanta and New Orleans.

But don't expect to book any rooms there soon. The projected open date is set for 2020.

Will the development cause issues for traffic?

For now, no. Monday, drivers shouldn't expect too much of an inconvenience. But that will eventually change as the development continues to grow.
