WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - School officials in Wakulla County said that a high school dismissed students early from school this morning due to a gas leak.
Students at Wakulla High School were dismissed around 10:30 a.m. due to a gas leak coming from an underground tank.
Since last Thursday, district officials said that they have been checking tanks at their schools following a gas leak at Wakulla Middle school.
They said they were told that the leaks could be a problem at older schools with older tanks, so they have continued to check all older facilities.
Bobby Pearce, the Wakulla County Superintendent of Schools, said that because part of the gas clean-up is igniting the vapors, officials decided to dismiss school early.
Since then, the school has gotten the all clear and will re-open tomorrow.
There is still more testing to go at other schools but the Superintendent said that he thinks the leak was caused by testing.
