WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Wakulla High School Band Director has been given a leave of absence following allegations that he was involved in a inappropriate text messaging scandal with several students.
The Office of Safety and Risk Management said that Wayne Watson has been given a leave of absence following allegations of inappropriate text messages and sexual contact.
Officials said that the Wakulla County School Board made a referral to local law enforcement and the Department of Children & Families. The District will also be contacting the Department of Education.
WTXL was told that a child was involved and that there may be as many as five others involved as well.
The principal at Wakulla High School did not want to provide a comment. The District says that it is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of its students.
Watson has been suspended with pay. The investigation is still ongoing.
