WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - In an effort to prevent incidents like Santa Fe and Parkland, Wakulla County formalized an agreement to add school resource officers at every school within the district.
The school board, along with the Wakulla County Sheriff's Department, will be placing SRO's within every school, including the elementary schools for the 2018 -19 school year.
Previously, the only SRO's in the county were at the middle schools and the high school.
WCSO says the most important thing is to keep students and faculty safe.
"We want to be prepared for any contingency, any event that may happen. We want to have an officer there and ready to act to protect our students and faculty there and at each and every school," said Public Information Officer Lt. Chris Savary.
Savary said the office will underwrite the SRO program with $231,000, plus the cost of training six new SROs.
