VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)--Valdosta State University leaders say police have surveillance video that shows Eric Sheppard with a backpack.
They say the gun, found inside the backpack found Tuesday afternoon around 2:45, is registered to Sheppard. University leaders say that's the evidence that led to the warrant being issued for his arrest.
Sheppard is wanted on a charge of carrying weapons within a school safety zone at school functions or on school property.
On Wednesday, Sheppard's father made a plea to his son on the steps of West Hall asking him to turn himself in.
On Friday, Sheppard and others were protesting on the VSU campus. Police were called to the pedestrian mall between Nevins Hall and Odum Library after witnesses say the protesters were walking on the American flag.
Police say veteran Michelle Manhart took the flag away from the protest.
She was detained, but not charged. The flag belonged to Sheppard, but police say he did not want to press charges against Manhart.
If you have information on his whereabouts, you are asked to call VSU police at 229-333-7816 or 911.
