VSU Gets 10 Percent of Nursing Dchool Seats for Active Duty Military

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) -- Valdosta State's College of Nursing and Health Sciences has held one-tenth of its enrollment for active military members who want to get a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

Members of the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps can apply for the program until the January 15th, 2015.

"Across the services there has been a shortage in the nursing career field, and this is a great opportunity for enlisted personnel to earn an officer commission while completing their bachelor's degree," said Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Mark A. Smith, who is also the coordinator of the VSU Center at the Moody Air Force Base.

Smith says that the initiative is a good move for the University to continue to be "military friendly": an honor the school has received from GL Jobs magazine for five years in a row.
