VSU Announces Campus Initiative To Combat Sexual Assault

VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Valdosta State University is announcing an initiative to create an open dialogue about sexual assault prevention.

On Wednesday, VSU President William J. McKinney announced the initiative along with the President's Special Committee on the Prevention of Sexual Assault.

VSU says that the committee was created earlier this summer to analyze the school's strengths and weaknesses when it comes to dealing with sexual assault cases and prevention.

They evaluated how to make changes to law enforcement, student development, policy, student health care, counseling, and residence life, according to VSU.

As part of the initiative, VSU says the open dialogue is intended to challenge the university's culture to become more tolerant and accepting of individuals of different backgrounds and identities.

VSU says that the committee host a forum within the next few months in order to start this dialogue.

Florida State University recently started a similar program earlier in the semester called "Know More."
