VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A man faces a felony murder charge in the death of a two-month-old child.

Valdosta Police arrested Willie Hamilton on Tuesday on charges of felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, and aggravated battery.

Hamilton is the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother.

On Saturday, about 4:44 p.m., E-911 received an emergency call requesting assistance for an unresponsive two-month-old male child, VPD said in a news release.

Police officers and firefighters began CPR until Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene, in the 800 block of Vallotton Drive, and took over first aid.

Paramedics transported the child to the South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Room. The child was then life-flighted to a Jacksonville hospital.

On Sunday, medical personnel in Jacksonville told detectives the child had died.

On Monday, a medical examiner in Jacksonville advised a Valdosta Department detective who was present during the autopsy that the infant appeared to have suffered internal trauma.

The death was ruled as a homicide.
