VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Police Department is investigating after a Union Tank Car employee passed away.

VPD says that they responded to a medical assistance call at the Union Tank Car Company on South Blanchard St. around 9:30 a.m.

A report says that a 54-year-old man later passed away after the call. VPD says that the death was unattended, which means a physician was not present, and the time of death is unclear.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing.

Union Tank Car is a railway equipment leasing company.

Union Tank Car Company send WTXL this statement from Amy Grzesk, Chief People Officer:

"The people of Union Tank Car Company are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our co-workers at the UTLX Repair Services facility in Valdosta, Georgia, on Friday (December 15). The company is cooperating with OSHA and local emergency responders in their investigations of this fatality. Our thoughts and concerns are with the employee’s family and colleagues. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we are not publicly identifying the employee at this time."

We will update this story as we confirm more details.
