TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A special session begins Monday for Florida lawmakers to re-draw congressional districts which were deemed unconstitutional. Now, two voting rights groups are demanding these meetings be open to the public.
The League of Women Voters of Florida and Common Cause Florida sent a letter to house and senate leaders, saying these meetings should not be held behind closed doors.
The maps were ruled unconstitutional because they were drawn to favor certain political parties. Sessions will take place this month and in October the create new maps.
On Tuesday's WTXL ABC27 News at Six, Abbey Maurer sat down with WTXL Political Contributor Trimmel Gomes, to discuss how this affect voter trust in lawmakers.
