TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (WTXL) - Students from Flint, Michigan claim hotel workers in Live Oak used racial slurs against them.

They were in North Florida visiting colleges, but they say they were not welcomed at the Econo Lodge right off of I-10 in Live Oak.

The Suwannee County Sheriff's Department say the group's coordinator, Blake Odum, phoned them complaining the hotel staff were being quote "difficult."

The group says the hotel staff antagonized them overnight, and made them leave the next day at 10 a.m. sharp, saying they were glad to get them off their property. The group's coordinator claims the staff was using racial slurs when addressing the group.

Sheriff Tony Cameron says the incident doesn't reflect Live Oak as a whole saying, "We are united, we are a community where racism is not a problem. We're all living together and working together. Suwanee County is great place to raise your children."

The student group says they plan on taking legal action and have already called the hotel's corporate headquarters.
