MARKSVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A wanted man died after a struggle with deputies in the parking lot of a Walmart in Marksville on Friday, CBS affiliate KALB reported.
A spokesman with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies saw Armando Frank, 42, sitting on a tractor outside the store around 11:15 a.m. He added Frank was wanted on several warrants.
Deputies reported when they tried to arrest Frank, he began to resist and was tasered. He was reportedly tasered a second time before deputies were able to get him on the ground. Frank's breathing then reportedly became shallow, so deputies called for medical assistance. The spokesman said Frank died at a hospital.
Frank's body has been sent to the coroner's office for an autopsy.
"We're just going to wait for the autopsy to come back, which is scheduled for Monday," the spokesman said. "And we will have a better idea of any other circumstances when the autopsy comes back."
Body cam footage of the incident will be reviewed.
"We do have body camera footage and after the coroner's report, the entire thing will be sent to the district attorney for review. As always, there is oversight in everything and we welcome any review," the spokesman added.
Louisiana State Police is not involved in the investigation because this was not a shooting.
The spokesman said three deputies were also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries they reportedly received during the scuffle.
Avoyelles Parish officials said Frank has been arrested multiple times in the past and was wanted on several warrants. They added a warrant for his arrest was issued on October 12 for simple criminal trespassing and attempted unauthorized entering of an inhabited dwelling.
