SANTA ANA, CA (CNN) – Police are looking for a man who trashed a California convenience store and assaulted the clerk after he was refused use of a phone.

The suspect entered a Santa Ana, CA, 7-Eleven several times around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 25, police say. He demanded to use the clerk’s phone and wanted to buy beer.

California law prohibits after-hours alcohol sales.

The clerk asked the man to leave, threatening to call the police if he didn’t.

Police say the suspect then assaulted the clerk and trashed the store, pushing many items off the counter and breaking several of the store’s front windows.

The suspect’s actions caused about $2,000 worth of damage, police say.

The store manager says the clerk did not want to return to work after the incident.

Police released surveillance footage of the crime, asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.
