BOSTON (MBTA/CNN) - A group of bystanders sprang into action Friday to save a woman at a Boston train station.

Transit police released surveillance footage from the moment a woman's leg became caught between an orange line train and an MBTA platform in Boston.

A police report said the severe laceration on the woman's leg left her bone exposed.

One person stood behind her for support, while another held a cold water bottle against her leg.

Meanwhile a group of at least 10 other people pushed on the train car, edging it back just enough to get her leg out.

Bystanders then wrapped her leg.

Transit authorities said the gap between the train and platform was five inches.

In addition to the amazing rescue, the story got a lot of attention because the woman begged people not to call an ambulance, saying she could not afford it.

She has been hospitalized.
