Victim in Remerton Shooting and Another Man Charged for Weed Possession

REMERTON, Ga. (WTXL) - In the search for the suspect who shot a victim near Jackson Square Apartments in Remerton, police have charged the victim in the shooting and another man for having weed with the intent to sell.

Around 12:50 p.m., Remerton Police Department responded to an apartment on 1300 Melody Lane to a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, the found 22-year-old Thomas Matthews with a gunshot wound to his leg.

They said that Matthews was in a car driven by Tony Davis, 29, and they were parked in the apartment complex's parking lot when the shooting happened.

Matthews was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for his injuries while Davis was not injured.

Investigators said that Matthews and Davis gave them conflicting stories of the shooting but they both described the shooter a 5'10 black man with a thin build, wearing all black.

Officers searched the apartment complex looking for the suspect, but were unable to find him. However, during the investigation, they found just under 17 grams of weed in Davis' car.

Both Davis and Matthews were charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, though only Davis was arrested and taken to the Lowndes County Jail.

A warrant has been issued for Matthews arrest. The suspect in the shooting is still at large.

“We appreciate all the surrounding agencies who offered there assistance in this incident,” said RPD Investigator Derrick Sinclair.
