TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tuesday night's massive pileup on Interstate 10 has many wondering what exactly happened.
Around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Alicia Chellman was driving home on I-10 after dropping her daughter off at a friend's house, and that's when chaos struck.
"And I looked in the rear view mirror and the truck behind me was coming and I was like ' there's no way, no way he's going to be able to stop and then it was just cars everywhere," said Chellman.
State troopers say at least 45 vehicles were part of the pileup starting after a semi-truck jack-knifed trying to get around a car.
"I just didn't know when it was going to stop. I remember I kept getting hit and all the corners of my car were completely smashed," said Chellman.
Chellman was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and released with only minor bruises to her leg.
"It didn't matter what color you were, it didn't matter how old you were, what gender you were, it didn't matter who's fault it was, it was just a matter of there are people here from our community that are hurt and we just got to make sure everybody is okay," said Chellman.
11 of the 12 patients taken to two TMH emergency centers have been discharged.
The 12th patient is still in critical condition.
FHP says it’s 40-year-old Duane Allen Washington, who was thrown from his motorcycle trying to avoid the pileup.
