VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Recruits from one South Georgia Fire Department are preparing to graduate Friday, but they kicked off celebrations a day early.
The recruits from the Valdosta Fire Department celebrated their graduation Thursday with a 3-mile run.
The recruits ran the route with cheers from city staff, and their training officer at their side.
VFD Training Lieutenant Justin Ply: "I'm very proud of them. They've put in a lot of work and given a lot of effort throughout the process. I couldn't be more proud of them right now."
After training for the past five months, this race marks their official start with the Operations Division with the Valdosta Fire Department.
Lieutenant Ply emphasized to the recruits, their official training ends tomorrow, but they should continue learning and growing until the day they retire.
