ATLANTA, GA (WTXL) - Homeless or at risk veterans receive close to $6 million worth of federal grants.
Several Georgia Community organizations will get $5.7 million worth of benefits.
The awards to Georgia organizations include: $1.09 million to Central Savannah River Area Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. in Augusta; $1.02 million to Action Ministries, Inc. in Atlanta; about $560,000 to Decatur Cooperative Ministry, Inc. in Decatur; $1.02 million to Travelers Aid of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc. in Atlanta and $2 million to United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced the awards Tuesday. It's all part of a 2009 promise to end veteran homelessness by 2015.
Nationwide, the agency announced about $300 million in grants.
