SARASOTA CO., FL (WWSB) – A 55-year-old Venice man was arrested for impersonating a Police Officer after he was involved in a road rage incident and told the victims he was a law enforcement officer on Saturday.

Around 4 p.m., Sarasota County Sheriffs were called to Bellagio Boulevard and SR 766 for reports of a road rage incident.

Curtis Walma was driving recklessly alongside the victims’ vehicle and he eventually cut them off. Walma blocked the entrance to their neighborhood, according to the victims.

Both vehicles were stopped and Walma signaled to the victims to get out of the car. He advised the victims he was a police officer with a weapon in his car. He threw and object at the victims’ vehicle causing damage to the rear driver’s side door.

Walma got back into his vehicle, activated emergency lights from his dashboard and fled the area.

Using vehicle tag information, detectives identified Walma as the suspect and confirmed his identity with the victims using a photo lineup.

Walma was arrested Saturday night and released Sunday morning on $1,620 bond.  He was charged with Impersonating a Police Officer and Criminal Mischief.
