LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Valor Ceremony is being held for a Gadsden County Deputy now in hospice care.

The ceremony is being held at Big Bend Hospice, where Gadsden County Sheriff's Office deputy and Army Specialist 4 (Charlie Troop, 1/153 Calvary, 53rd IBCT) Maximilian Sander was transported last weekend.

Deputy Sander was riding his motorcycle in Tallahassee on North Meridian Road near County Road 155 back in may, when a car pulled out in front of him.

Sander was critically injured

Police say Deputy Sander was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Organizers say ceremonies like these are a way to acknowledge and honor hospice patients who served in the military.

Sander has served in the National Guard since 2015. His unit was stationed here which enabled him to be an active deputy in Gadsden County.

You can help support Deputy Max Sander at his GoFundMe page.
