VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)--The City of Valdosta is observing National Community Planning Month in October.
The annual observance, sponsored by the City of Valdosta’s Planning and Zoning Division and the American Planning Association.
This year's theme for Community Planning Month, “Health and Prosperity,” highlights the role of planners in building healthy communities that provide a solid foundation for the future. While change is constant and affects all cities, community planning can help manage this change in a way that provides better choices for how people work and live. Scheduled events for Community Planning Month are posted on the city’s website and include Farm Days, community clean ups and Safe Walk to School Day, to name a few.
The City of Valdosta employs four full-time planners within the Planning and Zoning Division. Together, this division is responsible for several aspects of community planning including historic preservation, long-term growth, current development and zoning. The division works closely with other city departments to ensure future infrastructure improvements are consistent with the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
