VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Saturday will be a big day for one 13-year-old Valdosta girl.

A day named after her, to honor her strength and courage as she fights for her life.

The Valdosta Police Department and a slew of other businesses have been working long and hard to help knock items off 13-year-old Maddie Pitts' bucket list.

Pits was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and leukemia, and told that she only had a few weeks left to live.

Maddie made a wish list that consists of carving her name in a tree, getting a license, swimming with manatees, and a few other things.

VPD and partners will help make the wish list of items a reality Saturday.

"She's been described as spunky and fiery, she's not letting this get her down and that's something I think that everybody can take from her attitude there, dealing with what her and her family been dealing with," said VPD officer Randall Hancock.

Saturday's event is to help raise money for additional items on Maddie's bucket list.

Maddie Day will take place Saturday at Freedom Park, starting at 11 a.m.
