Valdosta Students Learning in Court Today, Plant a Tree for Arbor Day

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valwood second graders paid a visit to the Valdosta Municipal Court, on Feb. 20, to serve as the jury in a case involving their teachers. They were on trial for fictitiously stealing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and candy bar.

The Court's staff taught the students how the judicial process works, and they helped the court make the decision as to whether the teachers were innocent or guilty.

They decided to find the teachers had stolen the items, resulting in a sentence of snacks for the students of both classes next week.

After their time in the court, the students planted a Drake Elm tree in front of the court in celebration of Georgia Arbor Day.
