LOWNDES Co., GA (WTXL) - A Valdosta State University student died after a car crash in Lowndes county over the weekend.
The Georgia State Patrol says Geraldo Vargas was on I-75 when he drove off the road and hit an empty car parked on the shoulder. His vehicle was then hit by a semi.
The 22-year-old was taken to South Georgia Medical Center, where he died from his injuries according to troopers.
Authorities do not believe alcohol played a factor in the crash and say Vargas may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Troopers say Vargas was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
