VALDOSTA, FL (WTXL) - Valdosta State University announced Wednesday they are planning to layoff 33 employees at the end of the 2015-2016 school year.
In a letter released by the University, Interim President Dr. Cecil P. Staton explains that enrollment has been down by 17% since 2011.
Since then, the University says they have made an attempt to "Utilizing fund balances and vacant staff and faculty positions to make up the difference..." but that is no longer an option.
Staton says they are telling the 33 employees this week so they have time to make accommodations before the end of the school year.
"To assist the affected individuals, we will provide transition support including funds for appropriate job search related activities. Again, we will support them in every way we can and do regret having to take this action," says Staton.
