VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The bodies of 6 United States service members killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan, have been flown home.
This includes a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant, who graduated from Valdosta State University (VSU) in May.
Chester McBride, Jr. earned a Masters of Public Administration degree from VSU.
In a statement, the school said, "He will forever be a shining example of a Blazer's commitment to the core value of citizenship, as he dedicated his life to offering support to those who need help".
Steve Pennington, Sgt. McBride's high school football coach in Statesboro, Georgia, says McBride left an impression.
"But the biggest thing I think, one thing that I remember about him, is his quietness, I believe he was a person who observed life itself," explained Pennington. "He had great compassion for others...and he wanted to do well."
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack that also left three Americans wounded.
