VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta State University police say they are looking for a protester after they found a gun in a backpack at Odum Library.

According to the University, VSU police were performing extra patrols as part of extra security following recent protests on campus. During these patrols, officers found a backpack on University property with a handgun inside.

They say evidence links the gun to Eric Sheppard and that a judge has issued an arrest warrant for Sheppard, who has recently been seen on television as a protester.

VSU says there has been an extensive search for Sheppard but they have not located him. He is now wanted and considered armed and dangerous. The University says they do not believe he is on university property and that he is in hiding.

The university is not on lockdown.

Valdosta State police are asking you to call them if you have information about where Sheppard is at (229)333-7816 or 911.
