VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Wednesday marked National Walk to School Day and safety officials were in full force to join the trek to school with elementary students in Valdosta.
The Lowndes Coalition for Highway Safety partnered up with Valdosta Police Department and Pinevale Elementary School.
Police, teachers, and students all gathered Wednesday morning at the Mildred Hunt Center to start their walk to school. Students had a chance to learn about pedestrian safety as officers encouraged them to get active and stay safe.
After they arrived at the school, members of VPD, Valdosta Fire Department, city employees, and elected officials spent the rest of the morning interacting with students.
