VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A victim was shot during a fight Thursday night involving several people and one person was taken into custody, Valdosta Police said.
Police said during the fight one person pulled out a firearm and shot the victim multiple times about 10:20 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release.
The victim was taken to South Georgia Medical Center by a family member, where he is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to his torso. He is listed in critical condition and his identity is still being withheld by police.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Marquis Walker, was transported to the Lowndes County Jail where he is being held pending arrest warrants for aggravated assault.
The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of Northside Drive.
"At this time we do not know what precipitated the physical altercation, which resulted in the shooting," said interim Chief Leslie Manahan. "This is a tragic event and multiple lives have been affected by a needless act."
Police are now searching for 26-year-old Dillion Hunter who is related to the victim but gave detectives a fake name and date of birth. Because he provided false information to officers, detectives have obtained warrants for his arrest for false statement-felony and giving a false name-misdemeanor.
Hunter is not in custody at this time.
The investigation is on-going and further charges are pending.
Anyone with any information or details about the case is asked to call the Valdosta Police Department at (229) 242 - 2606.
