VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)-- A police officer was dragged hundreds of feet after a traffic stop in Valdosta Tuesday.
Valdosta Police say Officer Donald Richmond stopped a vehicle on Moody Drive around 4:20 p.m. Officer Richmond walked up to the car on the passenger side to talk to the people inside.
Police say the car began to roll forward. The officer then told the person to stop, but the driver kept accelerating. The officer held on to the passenger door as he continued ordering the driver to stop. Police say Officer Richmond was dragged about 750 feet before he could safely let go.
He was able to radio dispatch and give a description of the vehicle and the suspects.
The car was abandoned at the intersection of University Drive and Seymour Street.
Police say drugs were found in the car. Officer Richmond was scraped up and was treated for his injuries. K-9 units searched the area but couldn't find the suspects.
Officers say they have an idea about the identities of the passenger and driver. Police aren't releasing further details because of the ongoing investigation.
