VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - The Valdosta Police Department says a recent incident involving a 4-year-old was not a hit and run.
The driver and 4 passengers of a car originally believed to have hit a 4-year-old Thursday around 1 p.m., on Blue Pool Drive gave police their side of the story.
Police say a car in front of the driver swerved to avoid the child who was near the road. The driver slowed to approximately 5 miles per hour to pass the child who was standing at the end of a driveway, says police.
According to officers, as the driver passed she heard something hit the back of her vehicle and stopped.
Police say the mother came and checked the child over, telling the driver the child was fine before taking them inside the home.
The driver is said by police to have left after checking on the child and only after the mother indicated the child was fine.
No charges have been filed at this time and the case is still being investigated as officers review all the information. They are no longer considering this a hit and run.
