VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Police Department is announcing the 23rd session of the Citizen's Police Academy.

The academy is scheduled to begin March 17 and will last for 10 weeks. It is designed to give citizens a better understanding of the internal workings of a modern day law enforcement agency, while also allowing people to engage with the officers.

Participants will get a tour of the crime lab and Emergency 911 Center. They will also get a chance to see the Valdosta State Prison, a shooting simulation training, and a ride along with patrol officers.

There's no fee to attend. The class will meet each Thursday evening.

Citizens who are interested in applying should contact Captain Kari Williams at (229)293-3099 for an application.
