Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL) - The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement sent a team to Valdosta Sunday.
Their job is to look into the procedures, policies, and operations of the Valdosta Police Department and decide whether or not the department can maintain their credentials as a certified law enforcement agency.
Lt. Adam Bembry says, "With any operation where we do work as dangerous as ours, can you imagine if you didn't if you didn't expect anything properly from the tires, didn't inspect weapons and equipment, didn't inspect various electrical devices. Kelvar, what if it's past it's expiration date."
He says there are benefits to the inspection, "We do inspections constantly internally but whenever we have outside eyes come in it absolutely helps us."
The police department also used this opportunity to reach out to the community, opening up their equipment not only to inspection from the pros, but also to the people they protect and serve every day.
