VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The Valdosta Police Fingerprinting Station that was installed less than a year ago has already shown great results in putting officers back on the streets quicker.
Last August, VPD opened the fingerprinting room for people who have non-violent, misdemeanor offenses that cause for an arrest to collect prints but don't have to go to jail to post bond.
Prior to the room, all arrests had to go through the Lowndes County Jail.
Lieutenant Adam Bembry says the room has saved both the city and county time and money.
"Even if it's 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there or 30 minutes that's more time they can spend in their patrol zone, out being seen, having presence, and again looking for people who are out doing things that there not suppose to be doing, out trying to steal stuff, terrorizing neighbors things of that nature, they can be out in the community doing what there suppose to be doing," said Lt. Bembry.
The fingerprinting station also has a breathalyzer inside it to test for DUI intoxication levels.
VPD says one of the offenses that comes through the station is driving on a suspended license.
